You can upload your poetry samples as a Word or PDF attachment. You can also submit links to videos of original performances in addition to the written poems. Our Committee will only consider applications that include samples of written work.
You must submit your completed application online by November 5, 2020 at 11:59 P.M. Be sure you complete the entire application before submitting, including attachments and references. The Poet Laureate Committee reserves the right to reject incomplete or incorrect submissions at their discretion.
We will select applicants based on the strength of your submitted poems and your commitment to the community in the role of the Poet Laureate.
By applying, you certify that you are willing and able to fulfill the duties of the Poet Laureate, if selected for the position. Submitted poems remain the applicant’s sole property. Once you apply, the application submits to the Office of Human Services. The Poet Laureate Jury Panel reviews all submissions. Together, the Poet Laureate Jury Panel and Committee will confidentially review applications and recommend finalists to the Mayor for final decision. Per city requirements, all finalists will require a background check.
